User Feedback Notes
Archive
These are notes I have taken and collected over time, mostly from feedback sessions with SOOs in various classroom sessions about training issues.
NWP Symposium, Dec. 1999
MetEd needs to have a simpler way to get quickly at the modules. It was perceived that they were buried deep in the structure. (Weren't aware of Web Modules link)
Users would like a publication timeline/schedule to see when modules will be released. (There is a simple one in place already.)
Would like an Index of the content.
Suggestion to mirror MetEd on the regional hub.
PDS is still perceived as a list of required training materials, rather than professional development opportunities.
Projection of Website is not that clear. Need to consider in design.
To make residence students more used to the Web modules, the users should have time to explore them in the lab, not just have a quick demonstration. Could they be incorporated as part of the training? Similar with how Morris used the Matrix?
The session on the Web materials should not happen at the end of the last day. People are too tuned out.
Residence class instructors should stay around if at all possible to encourage off line learning.
NWP Symposium, Sept. 1999
It is difficult to make forecasters accountable for training because SOOs don't have power.
There is so much stuff out there that its overwhelming.
Training is number 5 on a 5 item list of priorities.
Training is better if it is structured, like instructor-led training.
Training should be in short, sweet snippets.
It is difficult to measure effectiveness of training because verification is not done appropriately. (Point vs. Areal)
Its best for forecasters to know the science underlying forecasting so that they can adapt to rapidly changing situations.
It might be better to us U.S. Mail to notify of PDS updates.
